Shalini Hemraz, Multicultural Community Services Central Australia (MCSCA)

Originally from Mauritius Island, Shalini moved to Australia for studies and discovered her love for Alice Springs during a placement here. Eight years later Alice Springs has become her home away from home. 

Shalini’s social work journey has seen her traverse through various sectors including Family and Children Services, Aged Care, Domestic & Family Violence Support, and Migrant Services.  

In her role as the Migrant Community Settlement Officer at MCSCA, Shalini is dedicated to assisting new migrants settle into life in Australia, particularly during their initial five years.  

Shalini organises information sessions where migrants learn about Australian laws, the different services available to them, and most importantly their rights in Australia. Shalini ardently advocates for equal human rights and works alongside migrants as they navigate through diverse obstacles, including racism, exploitation, and DFSV. 

Her vision is of a world where every individual is treated with dignity, and where gendered violence is eradicated, paving the way for an equitable society.
