Hon Kate Worden

Minister for Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

Born in England, Kate Worden's initial childhood years were spent in her home country before she relocated to Australia in 1981. Spending time between Adelaide and the Northern Territory, while facing the responsibilities of single motherhood at 22, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Affairs in South Australia. The pursuit of her degree, and her lifelong commitment to supporting First Nations Australians, was profoundly shaped by her experiences in Ngukurr, Arnhem Land and Katherine.

In 1995, Kate made the decision to return to the Territory with her daughters. Joining the Northern Territory Government the same year, she gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in many departments including Mines, Education, Health, Housing and Consumer Affairs. Kate has been the Member for Sanderson since 2016, and holds multiple ministries in the Northern Territory Government, including as the Minister for the Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence. Recognising the prevalence of domestic, family and sexual violence within the Northern Territory, Kate initiated the establishment of the dedicated Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence portfolio under Chief Minister Gunner in April 2022.

Kate is passionate about the Territory and working for the benefit of all people.
