Key Themes

The forum theme is “Rising to the challenge: Sustainability, community and culture” with speakers and delegates from around Australasia. We are seeking abstracts that will inspire and tell stories of rising to the challenge to meet sustainability in medicine, whilst ensuring appropriate service delivery to meet the community’s health and cultural needs. Abstracts should integrate the theme across the medical education spectrum, with a particular focus on prevocational training.

We are particularly looking for papers that address the following topics:

  • Challenge
    • Initiatives and successes in implementation of the new AMC National Framework for prevocational medical training.
    • Changing needs of the medical workforce.
    • Teaching in the context of an evolving health system and a rapid rate of increase in medical technologies
  • Sustainability
    • Education for health system sustainability and for delivery of responsive community care.
    • Sustainability of the medical education pipeline - supporting educators and embedding education in all aspects of healthcare.
    • Environmental suitability in health system education and healthcare.

  • Community

    • The need to consider community needs and context in training and practice, to enhance health outcomes.

    • Inter-professional education.

    • Building a community of educational practice- especially in rural areas and when utilising technology.

  • Culture

    • Culturally safe, inclusive and responsive medical education and care for First Nations and other diverse cultural groups.
