LGANT Events

The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) hosts a diverse range of events throughout the year, offering invaluable opportunities for collaboration, learning, and innovation within the local government sector. These include our flagship annual conference, which is the premier gathering for local government leaders in the Northern Territory. Bringing together Mayors, Presidents, Elected Members, CEOs, and senior managers, the conference features themed programs, training, exhibitions, and keynote speakers, alongside critical discussions on policy and advocacy.

Complementing the conferences, LGANT also delivers tailored symposiums and other events addressing the operational and strategic challenges faced by councils. These forums provide a platform for expert insights, innovative thinking, and networking opportunities, ensuring local government professionals remain informed and inspired.

Who are we

The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) is the peak body representing the local government sector in the NT. We represent all 18 local government councils. Membership consists of five municipals, three shires, ten regional councils, and one associate member (Nhulunbuy Corporation).

LGANT was formed in 1992, the result of the amalgamation of two separate organisations, one representing municipal councils and the other community government and association councils.

What we do

Established in 1992, LGANT advances the interests of local government in the Northern Territory through policy development, advocacy, representation, training, capacity building and support.

LGANT supports the local government sector and its member councils by:

  • advocating on behalf of its member councils to the Northern Territory and Australian governments
  • delivering effective leadership and advice on policy issues and developments
  • delivering improved services and specialised advice
  • undertaking infrastructure project management

LGANT is a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001.
